Locating the California Unemployment Rate

Where is the California unemployment rate published? This is an important indicator of California’s employment health and can be useful in forecasting for various political organizations.  Knowing the unemployment rate of regions, such as Northern California, and Southern California is also helpful. Depending on the source you choose, it is also possible to find out the unemployment rate at a more granular level such as the unemployment rate for San Fransisco, or San Diego.  Lets explore this subject further and take a look at sources for unemployment information for the state.

One common source for information on local rates is your local paper.  The information is often published regularly.  Especially the closer to an election that we get. You might also learn which politician is going to help job creation and which ones might hinder it.  But that isn’t the only place to find information on unemployment.  Also consider going online.

Most of the readers of this site probably already know this.  When you run a search for the California unemployment rate, you may or may not find anything useful. Hopefully in this case you have discovered something of value, but be sure to search for more specific information such as that on your local municipality, city or county.  Going online is a great method, but sometimes you need to be more specific about your query.

For this, I mean, consider the agencies that publish information on unemployment statistics.  One place to look is http://www.edd.ca.gov. Another would be the local unemployment offices.  Another place to find the information is your local senators office.

As I mentioned earlier, statistical information is collected by local politicians.  One reason is that the information helps them server their communities better, but it is also required.  The unemployment departments report their numbers and the political think tanks analyze the information to assist in determining where federal funds will be directed.

The unemployment rate in California is readily available if you know where to look.  So the next time you find yourself looking for more information on the health of California’s work force, be sure to try some of the ideas above. They may speed up your search and you might learn something in meantime.
